Privacy Policy

1. Who we are and what this covers
Exspendse is an Android expense-tracking app published by Wumboos House (“we”, “us”, “our”). This policy explains what the app collects, why it collects it, and how you can control or delete it.
It applies to the Exspendse app for Android (package com.wumboos.exspendse) and to this page. It does not cover Google services that have their own privacy policies, such as Google Play, Google Sign-In, Google Drive, Firebase, and Google AdMob.
2. The short version
- Stored locally by default. Expenses, budgets, and settings live in a database on your phone.
- No account required. You can use the whole core app without signing in. Google Sign-In is optional and only for backup.
- Backup is opt-in. If you enable it, encrypted backups are stored in Google Drive or Firebase Storage under your Google account.
- Ads support the free version. Google AdMob may use advertising identifiers and ad interaction data. Premium removes ads.
- AI runs on your device. Spending insights are generated locally; your financial data is not sent to us for AI processing.
3. Information you provide directly
3.1 Expense data
Transaction details, amounts, categories, dates, notes, and attachments you enter. This is the data the app is built around, and it is stored locally unless you turn on backup.
3.2 Budget and preference data
Budget limits, financial goals, currencies, categories, and spending preferences you configure.
3.3 Optional account information
If you choose Google Sign-In to use backup features, we receive the Google account email address and basic profile information associated with that sign-in. An account is optional: without it, the app works normally and nothing is synced.
3.4 Support messages
If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message so we can reply and investigate the issue.
4. Information collected automatically
4.1 Device and app information
Device type and model, operating system version, app version, and unique device or installation identifiers.
4.2 Usage and diagnostics
Which app features are used, crash reports, and performance metrics. This helps us find bugs and improve the app. We treat this data as diagnostics rather than as a profile of your spending.
4.3 Advertising data
The free version shows ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect advertising identifiers and interaction data (such as ad impressions and clicks) to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads where permitted. This collection is governed by Google’s privacy policy.
Exspendse does not read your contacts, SMS messages, or call logs, and does not track your location unless a specific feature you enable requires it.
5. How we use information
- Core functionality: to record expenses, run budgets, and produce reports.
- Optional synchronisation: to back up and restore your data across devices when you enable backup.
- On-device insights: to generate spending summaries and recommendations locally on your phone.
- App improvement: to diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and understand which features need work.
- Advertising: to show ads in the free version. You can opt out of personalized ads in the app settings, adjust ad settings in your Google account, or buy premium to remove ads entirely.
- Support: to answer your questions and resolve problems.
6. Where your data lives
6.1 Local storage
By default, all financial data is stored on your device in a SQLite database. It does not leave the device unless you explicitly enable a backup or export feature. Deleting the app removes this local data.
6.2 Optional cloud backup
Google Drive and Firebase Storage
- You can optionally enable encrypted backups to Google Drive or Firebase Storage.
- Backups are encrypted with AES-256 before upload and stored under your Google account.
- Your encryption key is derived from your Google account, and only you can decrypt and access the backed-up data.
- You can disable cloud backup at any time from the app settings.
6.3 Security measures
- Encryption of all cloud backups before upload.
- Authentication through Google Sign-In using OAuth 2.0.
- Regular security updates and patches.
- No plain-text storage of sensitive financial data in the cloud.
7. Third-party services
Exspendse integrates with the following Google services. Each is governed by its own privacy policy, and we do not control how those services handle data once it reaches them.
- Google Sign-In: optional authentication for backup.
- Google Drive API: optional storage for backups.
- Firebase Authentication and Storage: account authentication and encrypted backup storage.
- Google AdMob: advertising in the free version.
- Google Play In-App Billing: purchases of premium features. Payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play; we do not receive or store your payment details.
Read Google’s policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
7.1 AI processing
Insights are generated with an on-device model (Flutter Gemma). Your financial data is not sent to external servers for AI processing.
8. Sharing and disclosure
8.1 We do not sell your data
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal or financial information. We do not share your expense records with advertisers or data brokers.
8.2 Limited circumstances
We may disclose information only when:
- You consent: you explicitly ask us to share something.
- Service providers need it: Google services listed in section 7 process data to provide their functionality.
- The law requires it: in response to a valid legal request, court order, or regulation.
- Rights need protection: to protect our rights, safety, or property, or those of our users.
9. Your rights and choices
9.1 Access and portability
- View all stored expenses and financial data in the app.
- Export your data as PDF or Excel files.
9.2 Deletion
- Local data: delete it permanently from the app settings, or uninstall the app.

To delete your account and associated cloud data: open the app, go to Settings → Delete Account, and confirm. This is irreversible. Cloud backups are permanently deleted within 30 days. If you cannot access the app, email cs@mail.screencraftapp.com and we will help.

- Adjust ad settings in your device’s Google settings.
- Buy premium to remove all advertisements.
9.4 Your legal rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise them. We respond to requests within 30 days.

- Diagnostics and analytics: anonymized data may be retained for up to 2 years to improve the app.
11. Children’s privacy
Exspendse is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. International users
Our service providers may process data in countries other than yours, where privacy laws may differ. Where required, transfers rely on the safeguards offered by those providers. By using Exspendse you consent to this processing.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. When we do, we will post the new version here, update the “last updated” date above, and notify you in the app for significant changes. Continued use of Exspendse after an update means you accept the revised policy.
